Chicory.co is a technology company that creates a tool that connects recipe websites with online grocers so that customers can easily order ingredients. After launching their widget in 2014, they hadn’t made any significant design changes since then. With competitors in the space cutting into their market share, they asked me to redesign their recipe widget to be more efficient and streamlined.
UX/UI Designer (Contract)
7/2018 - 8/2018
Designing for desktop and mobile
Because the previous design wasn’t well-optimized for mobile, I made sure to design for both platforms at the same time.
Checking in early and often with the team
This small and scrappy startup team was very invested in their product. To ensure buy-in along the way, I made sure to meet with the founders, the marketing team, and the engineering teams often.
Guerilla usability testing works in a pinch
Because the project was cut short, we didn’t have time for a formal usability study. Instead, to answer any design questions I had, I performed quick usability tests with friends and family. After all, the widget has a wide audience and should be easy-to-use by anyone who purchases ingredients online.
